Noah Bruening '28
Hometown: Davis, CA
Majors and Minor: History Major, Classical Languages and Literatures Minor
Favorite History Class: HIST 143 The Haitian Revolution in World History
Why I chose History: I love history because it is one of the few disciplines that grapples with social change over time. This is also what makes it so important as a tool both inside and outside academia. Seeing traces of the past in the present and the present in the past is incredibly awarding intellectually. I will never fail to be entertained, enlivened, and engaged by studying the past. Out of the humanities and social sciences, history has always been the most interesting subject for me and the one I am most able to connect to my life.
Susanna Martin '27
Hometown: Seattle, WA
Majors and Minor: English Major, History Major, Premodern Studies Minor
Favorite History Class: HIST 167 Anticolonialism and Decolonization in the 20th Century
Why I chose History: I didn’t come in as a declared history major, but as I took more courses within the department I found myself increasingly drawn to it. I found that studying history gives me a better understanding of the present world we live in, and I particularly love the research involved with writing papers. Additionally, I think that the history community at SCU is a wonderful support system and super inclusive for anyone with a passion for history!
Cash Carrillo '27
Hometown: Fresno, CA
Majors and Minor: History Major, Political Science Major
Favorite History Class: HIST 100S Historical Interpretation
Why I chose History: I chose to study history because I’m fascinated by how people throughout history have seen themselves and acted similarly or differently to us in the present.
Marcus Taylor '28
Hometown: Alameda, CA
Majors and Minor: History Major, Ethnic Studies Minor
Favorite History Class: HIST 168 Malcolm and Martin
Why I chose History: I love history because it has so much overlap with other subjects like economics, religion, art, and even things like math. I have a lot of fun seeing what connections I can make between history and another subject I'm studying or a separate piece of media.
