Daniel Lino Plata
Daniel Lino Plata holds a Ph.D. in Modern Languages and Literatures with a focus in Spanish and Gender Studies (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2026). Specializing in 20th and 21st century Spain, he examines contemporary representations of queer subjectivities across literary, popular, and visual artifacts. His most recent work centers on the negotiations and interplay between assimilatory and resistant social practices in relation to normative models as well as the processes of identity formation reflected in these cultural products. Grounded in themes such as feminisms, historical memory, folklore, and dissident masculinities, his research addresses how contemporary cultural production reflects shifting understandings of identity, belonging, and collective resilience.
Prior to joining SCU, he taught courses in Spanish language and literatures, the cultures of Spain, and LGBTIQ+ cultures in Latin America and Spain, while also serving as an instructor in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was named a Maude Hammond Fling Fellow. In the classroom, Daniel is passionate about cultivating inclusive learning spaces that promote both student confidence and cultural awareness.
