Students share why they studied languages

Nicholas Fazio '20, French Major

I had my sights set on a minor and only slightly considered pursuing a major. I remember Madame Boutouba speaking of French as an important language in business and my French studies journey continued, leading to participation the graduate program at HEC Paris working towards an MSc in Sustainability and Social Innovation.

Majors: Environmental Studies and French
Minors: Economics and Sustainability
Teaching Assistant in France and MSc student at HEC Paris

I can vividly remember sitting in Madame Boutouba’s office during my first year at Santa Clara. We discussed my future studying French at SCU. At the time, I had my sights set on a minor and only slightly considered pursuing a major. However, after a few French classes, more office hour discussions, and successful studies abroad, my French studies journey continued. Having terminated my two years as a teaching assistant in France*, I will be pursuing a MSc in Sustainability and Social Innovation at HEC Paris. HEC stands for Haute Ecole de Commerce. It is known as one of Europe’s top business schools with international influence. I remember Madame Boutouba speaking of French as an important language in business and I look forward to gaining insight into this world! I also hope that other SCU grads will reach out if the path I have taken might interest them!

*The teaching assistant program in France (TAPIF) publishes opportunities for continuing education.
