Students share why they studied languages

Rosalie Dillon '22, Spanish Minor

I pursued Spanish because of my prior experience with the language and because I really enjoy the Spanish culture.

Coming into college, I thought it was very important to my later career goals that I have strong second-language skills. Overall, I feel that learning about other cultures helps you build perspective and appreciation for others. I pursued Spanish because of my prior experience with the language and because I really enjoy the Spanish culture.

I chose to minor in Spanish to deepen my understanding of the Spanish culture and for my vocational goals. Post-graduation, I plan to travel to Spain through a teacher assistance program called NALCAP. While in Spain, I will spend 9 months helping teach English in a Spanish-speaking elementary classroom. Even beyond this experience as I pursue becoming a licensed therapist, I know that my knowledge of the Spanish language will be invaluable.
