He was selected to present, "Expanding Repertoire Options for the Small School Program" exploring arrangements and instrument substitutions of the second minuet and trio of K. 361 ‘Gran Partita’ by Mozart and Gavotte from Richard Strauss Suite in B-flat, Op. 4.

In addition to Dr. Rivera presenting, five members of the SCU Wind Ensemble were selected to perform in the W/NW CBDNA Intercollegiate Band. Pictured from left to right, Eric Lam (french horn), Adam Miller (trumpet), Andrew Shimshock (tuba), Derek Sturhann (bass clarinet), and Karinna Chong (french horn) will perform along side their peers from Colleges and Universities from 13 states. The performance will be held on Saturday, March 24  at 12 noon in Weill Hall at Sonoma State University's Green Music Center.

Recently, the SCU Wind Ensemble joined Nazareth College (Rochester, NY) and other Universities to commission a new piece for wind band. Composed by Steve Danyew, Into the Silent Land is a personal reflection on the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy in 2012. The SCU Wind Ensemble will perform this piece next academic year.
