Kat Meyer's Research to be Published in Undergraduate Journal
Pi Sigma Alpha's Undergraduate Journal of Politics has accepted a paper by Kat Meyer for its fall 2017 issue. The paper is entitled, "Losing Religiosity: The Impact of Religious Conflict on Religious Identification." The contribution stems from her work this past summer when she participated in the National Science Foundation - Research Experience for Undergraduates in Civil Conflict Management and Peace Science at the University of North Texas. Kat designed a research project examining whether the occurrence of religious conflict affected individuals' attachments to their religious identities. She specifically looked at Islam and Christianity in 122 subnational regions of Africa; her project suggests a slight softening of Muslim identification as a result of religious conflict. Kat will also be presenting her project at the upcoming Midwest Political Science Association conference in April.
Kay Meyer is a senior political science and religious studies double major with a minor in French and Francophone Studies. Kat currently serves as a research assistant for Dr. Naomi Levy. Next year, she plans on pursuing a graduate degree in international affairs or conflict resolution.
