Twelve students at the Model United Nations of the Far West Conference

Students attend conference

In late spring, students from Santa Clara University traveled to Burlingame, CA, to take part in the Model United Nations of the Far West Conference. The theme of this year's conference was “The Power of the Powerless: Strengthening Vulnerable Populations.” Playing the roles of Iran and the Philippines, SCU students worked with delegates from across the western United States to craft and win support for resolutions on issues such as the Impact of the World Drug Problem, the Question of Palestine, and Strengthening Civil Society. The team participated in discussions in the General Assembly, the Human Rights Commission, and several other committees, and had the opportunity to meet with diplomats from the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco and the UN Secretariat in New York City.
