Katherine Saxton and Laura Chyu have received $20,000 from the University of Michigan. These funds will support their project "Economic Status, Health, & Well-Being Over the Life Course and Across Generations". This project will examine the impact of early life adversity and adult stress on human health. Using data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), they will evaluate the independent and interactive effects of stress across the life course on adult health. They hypothesize that early life adversity will moderate the effect of stress in adulthood in predicting multiple health outcomes, consistent with the theory of differential susceptibility. This study furthers research into the ways in which early life stress affects health trajectories over the life course, examining early adversity not only as a source of vulnerability but also as a factor of resilience.
