Research Assistant for the Resilient Families Project with Dr. Barbara Burns, a partnership that allowed 6 LEAD Scholars to work as research assistant

Resilient Families Project is a family intervention program designed to strengthen self- regulation skills through parent education and family activities. As a research assistant, I help Dr. Barbara Burns evaluate the use of RFP and explore ways to reach out to more families. I learned a lot from Dr. Burns, including how to code data, how to create a storyboard for a Spanish soap opera, and the true meaning of meaningful work. At the same time, Dr. Burns gave me the opportunity to learn the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to use in my own life. Although I have not perfected these skills, I can feel the impact that they have on my personal and academic life.
