What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?
I worked hard in my classes, and I worked hard in related jobs to cover my expenses; these jobs often involved doing math or teaching others math. I enjoyed being in a challenging environment where I could learn and grow and help others learn and grow as well.
What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?
You belong at Santa Clara University. You add depth to the learning experiences of everyone: students and faculty. Make the most of your time here. Ask questions. Get to know people who are similar to you and people who are different from you. We all benefit when we meet new people and increase our understanding of each other.
