What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?
I felt like I was pushed into the deep end of a pool without knowing how to swim. Eventually, after A LOT of trial and error, I finally got a handle on my school work, social life, and physical and mental health.
What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?
Don't be afraid to say 'no.' It is tempting to say 'yes' to all the things (classes, extra curricular activities, jobs, etc.), but don't let the fear of missing out on the "college experience" take a toll on your wellbeing. Find what you love and are passionate about, and put your time and energy towards that.
