What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?
During my first few terms, the university experience felt very foreign to me since I had no precedent. However, I was fortunate to get my first choice of living on the multicultural floor of my dormitory. UCSB also has a vibrant multicultural center, which I worked at as a student. Creating strong peer friendships helped me integrate into the university culture.
What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?
You got into college on the same application as your peers. You belong here!
