What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?

My college experience was really hard but also very enlightening and full of discovery. I was lucky enough to have a great community through different organizations on campus and some departments. I had lots of people that helped me out with my academics which I definitely could not have done it with out them. I was able to learn about who I was and what I wanted to accomplish by the end of my college experience. I always tried to be as involved as I could and through that I made lots of friends who I still connect with today. College was difficult but I loved my time at SCU.

What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?

My message is that I know college can be hard and many times it seems impossible to continue but know that there are many people who are willing to help when you need them. Never give up as I know that you are resilient, strong, and amazing. Always try to be part of a community because the people that are part of it will be there for you. Never be scared to ask questions or reach out for help. We all need help sometimes and it is important to take care of yourself. So be brave, connect with people, and relentlessly work for what you want. You got this!
