What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?
Difficult. I constantly had to prove that I deserved to be there. There was faculty that doubted I actually doubted iwrote an essay or solved a problem. Some faculty said "your kind don't belong here".
What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?
Don't doubt that you deserve to be here. Someone saw something special in you and that you can succeed here. Don't be afraid to try new things, take risks, make some mistakes, learn from them.Don't try to do this alone. Find a community to support you. Professors to mentor you and most of all seek help when you need it. Never forget there are many people who believe in you.
