What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?
I wish I had been a part of a program like LEAD! It may have helped me get more out of my college experience and prepared me better for my career. Instead I was mainly obsessed with fulfilling degree requirements as quickly as possible and competing in class.
What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?
Not having parental guidance about college is disadvantageous in a multitude of ways, but the chance to be the first in your family to earn a college degree is also uniquely motivating (if you don't put too much pressure on yourself).
