Where did you attend college?

California State University, Fullerton

What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?

At the beginning, I felt lost and unclear on how to navigate the college system while trying to manage school, work, and home responsibilities. I wasn't sure if college was for me, but I was determine to figure it out and accomplish my goals. I came across some great counselors, faculty, and staff who believed in me and were instrumental to growth and success as a student. I started at the community college, earned my AA, transferred to a CSU for my Bachelors, and completed my Masters at APU. Though I faced some challenges and self-doubt in and out of the classroom, I also developed a lot confidence and motivation to celebrate my hard work and recognize that despite any barriers I faced, I can do anything I put my mind to. I am proud to be a first-gen student.

What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?

Never doubt your ability to accomplish great things. Own it and showcase to everyone and everywhere you go. There are a lot of people ready to help you so don't be afraid to reach out and know you have talents that will shine in every space you step foot in.
