What was your college experience like as a first-generation college student?
I loved being at college but remember feeling a little behind the curve sometimes. I often felt like I didn't know how to go about something, e.g., making use of office hours, asking about internships or special opportunities, until I'd done it once and then learned how I REALLY should have gone about it in the first place.
What message do you have to share with current first-generation college students?
Find some faculty or more experienced students in your major to connect with and really take advantage of their knowledge and experiences. The people I eventually connected with at ASU helped me a lot and I am still friends with some of them today!
