New Student Move-In & Welcome Weekend 2025

Please note the following dates for moving to campus in September, for Welcome Weekend, and for the first day of fall classes.

September 16: Residence hall move-in for new transfers students *

September 19: Residence hall move-in for first year students *

September 19: Open houses, information sessions, and evening social activities

September 20-21: Welcome Weekend

September 22: First day of fall classes

* Notes about early move-in for some new students:

  • First year students attending their in-person Orientation session in September will be able to move in early on either September 16 or September 17 depending on which session they are attending.
    • Early move-in on September 16 for students attending the September 17 Orientation session.
    • Early move-in on September 17 for students attending the September 18 Orientation session.
  • First year international students will be approved to move in early in order to participate in International Student Welcome; consult with the International Students & Scholars office staff to learn about the exact date for early move-in.
  • First year students in the LEAD Scholars Program will be approved to move in early in order to participate in LEAD Week; consult with the LEAD Scholars Program office to learn about the exact date for early move-in.
  • First year students participating in other programs that require early move-in will be approved to move in early ; consult with the coordinators of these programs to learn about the exact date for early move-in.
  • Any first year students and new transfer students admitted to SCU after August 22 may not be able to move in early into the residence halls so please consult with the SCU Housing Office (housing@scu.edu, 408-554-4900) to inquire about your approved move-in date.

  • Parents and families are encouraged but not required to attend New Student Move-In and/or Welcome Weekend.
  • We are mindful that not all families have the resources or time to travel with their students.
  • Residence Hall Move-In for new transfer students on September 16 is generally 9:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Residence Hall Move-In for first Year students on September 19 begins at 8:30am with the first of 3 groups (90 minutes each), the second group begins at 10:00am, and the third group begins at 11:30am.
  • Students have two required sessions: RLC Community Conversations at 8:00-9:00pm on September 19 (required for only those students living on campus) and a session about community health and safety at 1:30-3:00pm on September 21 (required for all students who are living on and off campus).
  • There are a variety of social activities and receptions on the evenings of September 19, September 20, and September 21.

Residence Hall Room & Move-In Assignments

Students will receive an email in mid-August with information about their assigned Residential Learning Community (RLC) or residence hall, room number, room type, and roommate information (if applicable).

  • The specific move-in time for each student will be sent in a separate email along with other move-in information.
  • Various resources are available on our SCU Housing website which we hope students and families will find helpful as they prepare to make their way to campus.

Meals

New students who have SCU Dining Meal Plans may start using them on September 15 while parents, other family, and guests may purchase breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

All dining locations will open starting on September 19 for New Student Move-In.

    • September 15: 7:00am - 5:30pm
    • September 16: 7:00am - 5:30pm
    • September 17: 7:00am - 6:30pm
    • September 18: 7:00am - 8:00pm
    • September 19: 7:00am - 8:00pm
  • Fire Grill
    • September 17: 4:00pm - 7:00pm
    • September 18: 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Additional dining information:

  • Many receptions will have refreshments (food and drink) available for free.
  • Students and families are also welcome to explore restaurants in the area, too.
  • Ask our Orientation Leaders (OLs), faculty, and staff for recommendations!

Wireless Options (Campus Wifi)

If you need assistance with internet connection, IT staff will be available in all of the residence halls. Look for the staff wearing IT shirts.

Wireless Option for incoming First Year & Transfer Students:

(use this network at any time, even during the academic year)

  • Authenticated (use your SCU login and password)
  • MySCU Portal and services in MySCU Portal are available

Wireless Option for Parents & Families:

Name of Wireless Network: SCU-Guest

  • Not authenticated (no password required - usage agreement check-box)
  • Connection time is limited (8 hours - before prompted to agree to usage terms again)
  • Some SCU services are NOT available (including MySCU Portal)

Health resources on campus:

  • Students seeking medical treatment can visit the Cowell Center (Student Health, Counseling, and Well-Being), Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.
  • The Cowell Center is located across from the Sullivan Aquatic Center (campus swimming pool) and between Sanfilippo Hall and the Degheri Tennis Center.

Driving & Parking

During the move-in process, please pay attention to all road signs and personnel directing traffic especially since some streets may be closed or have limited access.

  • It is highly recommended to park in either the Main Parking Structure in the middle of campus or in the North Campus Parking Structure on the northern end of campus.
  • Parking permits are not required for New Student Move-In and Welcome Weekend.
  • Again, though, please obey all posted signs and instructions from personnel managing traffic.

Family Weekend

Family Weekend will be February 20-21, 2026.

  • More details will be provided on our Family Weekend website and sent via email to students and parents starting in November.
  • Online registration will open by mid-December.
