Faculty Research on Contemporary Hindu Temples

Shriya Sridharan spent the months of mid-June to early August in Chennai, India, to further her research on contemporary Hindu temples with fieldwork in the historical area of Mylapore. She conducted many interviews with temple practitioners and authorities engaged in contemporary renovations, as well as visited popular temples with increasing crowds of worshippers to understand contemporary Hindu temple forms, patronage, religiosity and spatial practices in this region.
