Hayley Seeno - Lead Artist for the OmwanaThrive Application

Studio Art major Hayley Seeno ’20 has an interest in art as a form of visual communication. During her time at Santa Clara University, she has enjoyed the variety of art classes offered in the Department of Art and Art History, especially Digital Imaging and Life Drawing. She is currently working on a project that uses skills acquired from both of these classes. Hayley is currently the lead artist for the application OmwanaThrive.

OmwanaThrive is an app designed to educate mothers in rural Uganda on infant care in the first 28 days of life, a period of time with a high infant mortality rate in Uganda due in part to lack of healthcare access and lack of infant health education. The OmwanaThrive team hopes to improve infant health education by using story-telling modules to communicate information on how to care for babies. The app is a collaborative senior design project consisting of engineering students, public health and biology students, and art students. Hayley designs and illustrates the slides for each module. She is joined by Chloe Wong '20 (Biology major, Studio Art minor) who provides the coloring and editing, and professor Qiuwen Li, who is the art advisor for the project. Chloe and Hayley both have an interest in visual communication and public health, and value the opportunity to work on the project.

OmwanaThrive will be presented at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in early March.
