Hello, my name is Anna Morris. I am a sophomore from Fort Worth, TX who studying Finance and Psychology. And during my time in the Leavey School of Business, I found a continuous theme of group projects in most classes. Each unique, but the one that stands out the most in my mind is from winter quarter 2019. My Financial Accounting professor, Chris Lee, assigned groups of four to create and complete a financial analysis of a business. Yes, to many this does not sound like the most exciting task, but it allowed me to explore a passion of mine that I typically do not have access to discuss during my classes.

My group and I choose Raytheon, a defense contracting company, to explore for the assignment. The reason mostly stems from my passion for exploring the relationships of businesses and the United States government. At SCU, I found it hard to find a way to have a richer understanding of these relationships through classes because it seemed as those I could study Business or government, but this one assignment opened my eyes up to the freedom within the SCU education system. Most projects have a checklist of what needs to be done, but how you get there and what you choose to focus on is up you. In some ways, school assignments are a choose your own adventure game, where you decide the path you take. Overall, this one group project opened my eyes to another side of SCU, one where we are able to choose our own paths of exploring our passions and combining them with our classroom education.
