Sean Marks: Meet the Firms

Apart from the quarterly career fairs that the business school offers, SCU also hosts an accounting-specific career fair called “Meet the Firms” which features a myriad of different public accounting firms. I attended Meet the Firms for my first time this year as a sophomore, and it was a wonderful experience to get a feel for the general idea of what a career in accounting really looks like. Although I was initially quite nervous about making a good impression and not making many mistakes, these feelings quickly subsided when I eventually began to talk to all of the professionals in the accounting industry. It was actually an extremely exciting and interesting time being able to converse with recruiters about their respective companies and learn more about their corporate culture and atmosphere.

While Meet the Firms was more so focused on current juniors in terms of internships, there were still plenty of opportunities for first-years and sophomores to network and learn about externship opportunities. Even though Meet the Firms is also mainly accounting-focused, I would still suggest any business major come out and network for a little bit. This is just one of the many great opportunities that Santa Clara’s business school has to offer, and I highly suggest that any incoming business student take a look at this opportunity!
