Management Information Systems Major
San Ramon, California

Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB:  As a Management Information Systems major, I am interested in learning the hard skills of the major and see how it can be applicable to my future profession. Currently, I am looking to go into Product Management or Operations/Strategy after college and I think this technical background will be helpful in either field.

What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies:  At SCU, I am heavily involved in the Multicultural Center (MCC). I served as President of the Chinese Student Association in my sophomore year and am an active member in CSA, VSA, and Barkada. Within the LSB, I am involved in Delta Sigma Pi, which is one of the professional business fraternities on campus. I am also on the club tennis team we have at Santa Clara. As for general hobbies, I love cooking, traveling, and watching sunsets.

What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at LSB?  I have definitely used the extensive alumni network at LSB to learn more about different professions and connect with companies with open job and internship opportunities. In fact, my sophomore and junior year internships were obtained through networking with an SCU alumni. That internship greatly helped expand my skills in operations, strategy, and marketing which I have used in the classroom and in other jobs.

Favorite LSB Class and Why?  My favorite LSB class has been MKTG 165 which is Customer Centric Retailing. I greatly enjoyed this class because of the real world application and discussion aspects. Group discussions were extremely valuable in this course because I was able to learn about many different perspectives on similar issues and compare how it relates to my way of thinking.

What made you choose to attend LSB?  There are a couple reasons as to why I chose Santa Clara. First, my sister graduated from SCU as an AIS major in 2021 and seeing all of the amazing internship and career opportunities she has obtained in her 4 years inspired me to want that success for myself. Second, I was greatly drawn to the small class sizes that SCU has to offer because I enjoy being able to foster a personal connection with my professors and peers. Lastly, I valued the university's location in the Silicon Valley, it is a perfect place for finding summer internships and career opportunities post-grad.

What advice you wish you had while applying to college?  When I was applying to colleges, I was definitely nervous about what I was declaring as my major. However, one piece of advice I wish I knew was that you don't have to know exactly what you want to do going into college. College is a time to explore different interests and career paths in order to guide you in the direction you want to head in and if you wanted to, you can easily switch your major later on.
