Tim Cody: My Final Summer Break

Between a valuable internship experience and a few fun adventures, my last summer in college was a great one!

As I approached the end of my junior year of college, I had a sobering realization: I was about to enjoy my last summer break before I started working. Therefore, I knew that I wanted to make the most of my time from June to September. Born and raised in Arizona, I was accustomed to staying indoors and cooling off in swimming pools over summer. However, I wanted more: I wanted to stay in Santa Clara over the summer.

With the idea of working in Silicon Valley stuck in my mind, I gladly accepted an internship at Rosewood Family Advisors, a tax and accounting firm focused on high net worth individuals. Starting right after school ended, I transitioned into a professional environment and furthered my learning in a new way. Rather than separating the debits and credits, as you would in an introductory accounting class, I prepared tax returns for individuals and partnerships while using official software. Additionally, I was able to create financial statements, bank reconciliations, and sales tax reports for clients and their entities. By working for Rosewood in Palo Alto, I am now equipped with technical knowledge and experience that will carry me forward.

Outside of work, I had the opportunity to enjoy a few of the thrills a California summer offers. First, I spent an adrenaline-filled day going through loop de loops and down steep drops at California’s Great America. Second, I went to Santa Cruz and successfully stood up on a surfboard for the first time in my life. Third, I took the CalTrain to San Francisco for a friend's birthday and snacked on a charcuterie board while watching the sunset in Dolores Park. Fourth, I concluded my summer by headbanging to Post Malone’s performance at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.

Grateful for my professional and extracurricular experiences, I know that this was a summer I will never forget.
