Grant Chou : La Ceiba
This week in La Ceiba, the team went over hiring techniques and other potential managing practices with the managers. The system they have in place is very casual and relaxed to the point where they aren’t even sure if the employee they are hiring will be a good fit or can successfully perform their duties. However, they mostly only care about filling the position whenever they are short staffed so they aren’t pressured to reform their current techniques. The owners know that this wasn’t a sustainable business model seeing as staff are sometimes rude and don’t obey chain of command as they should be so our group put together a cheat sheet on how to screen potential employees through simple interview questions, what to look for in answers and what questions to stray away from. We are widening the scope of the search by making flyers that instruct interested people to email the La Ceiba email with their name, work experience and contact information which we will sift through and pick the best candidates for the owners to review.
We are also learning the ins and outs of their Point of Sale system so that they are able to track when employees clock in and out of work. This will not only help the accountability of the employees but make it easier to track hours for pay. We have been making huge strides with CET and developed a construction plan for the outside patio area.
