Visiting Cristo Rey High School Again!
This past Wednesday, May 31st, the class returned to Cristo Rey High School to visit the students once again. The goal of our visit was to share with the students about what it was like to be a business student, especially at Santa Clara University. For many of the students, Santa Clara is their dream school. I was part of a panel at the beginning that shared about each of the different majors the Santa Clara Leavey School of Business has to offer. I represented the Economics major, my chosen major. Each of my fellow panelists and I gave a two minute summary of our experiences with the major, including the nature of the study and the job opportunities the major typically comes along with. After that, we opened the floor to the students for questions, and they responded by asking about Santa Clara University specifically and what it is like to choose our major. They all wanted to know how we got exposure to our specific fields of study and how we came to decide which one was right for us.
After the panel, we broke into small groups with the students to go over a case study. We explained to the students that case studies were some of the more memorable learning experiences in the business school. Then we gave them a summary of the Takata airbag recall and asked them to think of the consequences regarding accounting, legal departments, marketing, and other business departments regarding such a crisis. The students were very engaged and happy to brainstorm with us, and we were happy to nudge them in the right direction. Following that, we gave them a quick summary of what we had accomplished in NPI, and then said our goodbyes.
Overall, it was a rewarding experience to visit the students once again and answer their questions.
