Meet Your Business Major Orientation Leader - Lasya Ram
You will have an opportunity to meet a few of the SCU current students that are working very hard this summer as orientation leaders! Take a minute to read how they chose their major, what have been their favorite courses so far and about their involvements.
How did you select your major?
I found my passion for Finance through the BUSN 70 course, where I discovered that I really enjoy understanding how strategy influences performance through interactive simulations such as Mikes Bikes. I also enjoy critical thinking and analyzing challenges as part of a team. This class gave me a glimpse into how business decisions play out in real time, which sparked my interest in Finance. Being involved in Women in Business also helped solidify my interest by giving me the chance to connect with real companies and speak to individuals who also majored in Finance.
What have been your favorite courses in your major so far or what courses are you looking forward to?
My favorite course so far has been Ethics in Business, where I have been able to explore the intersection of decision making and values in a corporate context. I am looking forward to taking FNCE 121 which will cover financial risk, capital budgeting, and really give me the foundations of finance.
What student organizations are you part of?
In the upcoming school year, I am thrilled to be serving as Director of Logistics for Women in Business where I will be assisting with planning events through coordinating campus spaces for events. I am also incredibly excited to be serving as Community Facilitator for the Magis RLC! I will also be serving as Culture Show Director for Intandesh where I will be handling the logistics and choreographing for Intandesh’s annual culture show. Currently, I am serving as orientation leader for this summer, and I am thrilled to help welcome new students on campus.
Any suggestions for students interested in your major?
If you are looking to explore the Finance major or business in general, I recommend joining student organizations. It’s one of the best ways to meet and learn from peers who share similar interests and goals! Surrounding myself with many supportive communities has helped me grow as a student and as a person.
