Update to Business Ethics Curriculum Requirement
The Leavey School of Business has updated the Business Ethics curriculum requirement. Please review the following information to ensure you are meeting the necessary requirements to obtain your degree.
Requirements by Enrollment Date
Students enrolled at SCU PRIOR to June 1, 2026:
All students (first-year admits, external and internal transfers) enrolled at SCU prior to June 1, 2026, will fulfill the business school’s ethics requirement with one of the following four course options:
- MGMT 6
- PHIL 26
- MGMT 136: Business Ethics
- PHIL 109: Business Ethics (E)
Students enrolled at SCU AFTER June 1, 2026:
All students (first-year admits, external and internal transfers) enrolled at SCU after June 1, 2026, will fulfill the business school’s ethics requirement with one of these two options:
- MGMT 136
- PHIL 109
Additional Notes
Important Changes:
- MGMT 6 will no longer be offered in the business school starting Fall 2026.
- PHIL 26 taken after June 1, 2026, will meet the University ethics requirement but not the business school’s ethics requirement.
- MGMT 136 and PHIL 109 will meet both the University ethics requirement and the business school’s ethics requirement.
MGMT 136 Requirements
Before taking MGMT 136, students must:
- Have completed 60 units
Students cannot take MGMT 136 for credit if they have already completed:
- MGMT 6 or PHIL 26 prior to June 1, 2026
- PHIL 109
- PHIL 26 can be taken, but it will only meet the university requirement
Course Availability (2026-27)
- MGMT 136: Offered every quarter during the academic year
- PHIL 26: Offered every quarter during the academic year
- PHIL 109: Offered three times during the academic year
Transfer / AP / IB Credit
- Transfer business ethics credit will be reviewed by the Office of the Registrar.
- AP/IB credit does not currently fulfill the business ethics requirement.
Pathways
- Pathways that list MGMT 6 or PHIL 26 will be updated to reflect MGMT 136 or PHIL 109
