Study Abroad: Seoul, South Korea
Do you have a favorite class that you are taking? Why?
My favorite class is the MKTG 181 equivalent here at Yonsei. My professor is a current marketing professional, so she's been able to expose us to what makes marketing here in Korea unique. Our big semester project revolves around working with a Korean skincare brand, Benetus. We are tasked with developing new creative strategies to help remodel their brand presence and strengthen their identity in the market.
What do you like about your program/university?
Yonsei University’s undergraduate population is quite large, so it's been a completely new and eye-opening experience to be a student here. That being said, school spirit here is insane! I had the amazing opportunity to attend the YonKo Games, a long-standing rivalry event against Korea University. Everyone is decked out in their school's color, and the chants from both schools fill the stadium that you even forget that you're at a sporting event. The energy is truly like no other!
What has been your favorite place that you visited so far or favorite part about your city? Why?
Busan! It was such a great getaway from the bustling condensed city-life in Seoul. It's South Korea's second-largest city known for its beaches and vibrant cultural scene. Me and my friends visited a couple beaches, visited beautiful culture villages, and had some amazing seafood! My favorite part was doing little sparklers on Gwangalli beach. Would highly recommend if you are visiting South Korea.
What advice would you give to the Leavey students planning to study abroad next year?
Do it! Take on this opportunity to discover a whole new part of the world, but also yourself. Also, in any new city take the time to do some "free-range" exploring. Don't get caught up in how much you want to do or what's next because you'll forget to enjoy what's in front of you.
