Study Abroad: Rome, Italy
Do you have a favorite class that you are taking? Why?
My favorite class that I am currently taking while studying in Rome is Italian. The course has been truly useful in everyday life here in Rome. It has helped me to speak a bit of the language and to better engage with the community.
What do you like about your program/university?
One thing I really like about my program is that it is located in a neighborhood away from the bulk of tourist traps. Being placed in such a local community has allowed me to make connections at nearby coffee shops and stores, allowing me to engage with the people in these places upon each visit.
What has been your favorite place that you visited so far or favorite part about your city? Why?
My favorite place that I have visited so far was Madrid, Spain. I loved the culture, tasting the food, and exploring the different areas of the city! The city was very walkable, everyone was really kind, and there were so many fun shops and local areas to explore!
What advice would you give to the Leavey students planning to study abroad next year?
A piece of advice I would give to students applying for study abroad is to try and book travel plans somewhat in advance to avoid expensive costs, but also leave room to go on trips with people that you get to know through the experience. It is really awesome to connect with students both from SCU and other Universities. Another thing that makes study abroad really awesome is that you gain the opportunity to get to know other SCU student you may not have known prior to the experience!
