Ryan Carrington’s work utilizes symbols of Americana to bridge issues of labor, class, work ethic, and economics with his personal and family history. His exhibition, Contradictions, investigates the rich conceptual history that pre-worn garments have to share. Through using the uniforms of blue and white-collar workers to recreate American flags, he prompts a conversation about how we value each other in our ever-changing society.
On Friday, August 6th, from 5-9 pm, Contradictions will be on exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. This exhibit will be open to the public as part of the San Jose South First Friday event. In addition to a variety of galleries and museums showing 50+ artists, there will be vendors, creative businesses, and food trucks.
Additionally, the museum has scheduled a reception on Sunday, August 29th from 4:30-5:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, please use this link to register. Last week I had a ton of fun presenting my work through the SJMQT Textile Talk Series with Nancy Bavor. The museum's regular hours are Friday-Sunday from 11-3. Registration is encouraged but not required.
