Emily Reese

Emily Ray Reese is a filmmaker from a ghost town in the mountains of New Mexico.
While serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador in 2005, Reese founded Gringuisimo, an educational theater group that traveled to rural areas using theater to create dialogue on issues ranging from reproductive health to the environment.
In 2007, Reese was accepted into the New York University Graduate Film Program. Her first short film Cecilia, traveled the festival circuit, including Palm Springs ShortsFest, Outfest, and the New York International Latino Film Festival. Reese also produced two short films that premiered at Sundance, The Visitors and OK Breathe, Auralee. In 2011 she traveled to Norway to produce the film, Saltwater Fruit. Reese’s script ‘Baby LU’ was accepted into the 2012 IFP Emerging Narrative Lab and earned Reese the 2013 New York Foundation of the Arts Geri Asher Screenwriting Fellowship.
Most recently Reese has taken her storytelling skills to stages all over New York City. She was featured on the podcast "Falling Uphill," and won a Moth story slam in 2017. She also hosted the monthly storytelling show "How to Build a Fire" which inspired her to co-found the show "Open Lore Policy." Reese debuted her first hour-long solo show, "Lil’ Mama," in 2017. She then developed the show into a theater piece for the 2018 Stand Up Rise Up festival.
