Fr. Paul Soukup, S.J., was awarded the seventh annual Medium and the Light Award, in recognition of the religious dimensions of the life and work of Marshall McLuhan, in June at the Media Ecology Association Convention at St. Mary’s College of California.
McLuhan was an influential Canadian professor and public intellectual whose work is vital to the study of media theory and profoundly influenced the advertising and television industries. The award is given annually by the Marshall McLuhan Initiative at St Paul’s College, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada.
Soukup, the chair of the Communication Department, was honored for his long and fruitful research into theology and communication that helps us understand what it means to be both Christian and human in the 21st century.
