Why English?

I am incredibly thankful for having majored in English. SCU's English Department helped equip me with strong writing, editing, and analytical skills that I may not have otherwise, had I chosen a different major. My career path has led me through a variety of industries, including travel and investigative journalism, communications, human rights, and technology, and I have gained extensive experience in television, new media, radio, and print. From crafting scripts for NBC's Today show travel segments to writing columns for Smithsonian magazine, my expertise has attracted a cornucopia of unique opportunities. Historically, college communications departments evolved from English departments; I am delighted that I invested in the origins.
