Placement Exams

If you believe you are able to test out of Theory I or Musicianship I, or would like to be placed into a higher level class in the Theory/Musicianship sequence, placement exams are offered.

Music Theory - placement exam is here. Please download the document, print, complete as many exercises as you can (it's OK to leave blank the ones you don't know the answer to), then scan your completed test and send it to Katie Williams, kfwilliams@scu.edu alternatively you can also take a hard copy to Katie Williams in the Music Office.

Musicianship - please contact Prof. Bill Stevens, wstevens@scu.edu, if you would like to take a placement test as well. This is typically done in person.

Important: if you have registered for Theory & Musicianship I and intend to take the placement exams, it is MANDATORY that you attend any and all classes until the placement exams have been graded and your results have been posted.

Note: Music Minors may take the placement exam to test into a course that is appropriate for their skill level, but must still complete two courses from both the Theory and Musicianship sequences.
