2018 Panetta Institute Congressional Intern: Duncan McDonell '20

Duncan worked in the House of Representatives for Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who serves the 13th District of California.

Duncan McDonell represented Santa Clara University as one of 25 fellows selected for the Panetta Institute's 2018 Congressional Internship Program. He worked in the House of Representatives for Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who serves the 13th District of California. Duncan had the opportunity to work on legislative, communications, and operational issues and attended briefings, hearings, and conferences on a wide variety of policy issues

According to Duncan, "The Panetta Institute’s Congressional Internship Program is a life-changing experience that helps prepare and empower students for careers in public service. Not only does the program place students into Congressional offices, but it begins with a rigorous training program featuring lecturers including seasoned politicians, award-winning journalists, and a number of the nation’s foremost policy experts. I am deeply grateful to Secretary and Mrs. Panetta, all of the professors and staff at the Panetta Institute, and to Santa Clara University for helping to make this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible."
