Ana María Pineda, RSM: Book Update

Romero & Grande

During the 2016 fall quarter, Dr. Ana María Pineda, RSM had two presentations on her recently published book, Romero & Grande:  Companions on the Journey.  On October 27, 2017, she presented “Human Fragility in the Journey to Martyrdom” at Santa Teresa Parish in San Jose introduced by Bishop Patrick J. McGrath and sponsored by the Diocese of San Jose Social Ministries Office and Santa Teresa Parish Social Action Ministry.  At that event, she was assisted by Santa Clara University graduate and her former student, Tony Ferrari ’15. On November 12th, her presentation, “Exploring the Path of Modern Martyrs:  Archbishop Oscar Romero and Father Rutilio Grande was sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose at their Center for Education and Spirituality in Fremont, California.  On November 18, 2016, Pineda attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI) in San Antonio, Texas which was established to support and further the theological education of Latinos/as.  To date HTI has helped graduate 107 Latinos/as scholars with doctoral degrees in theology.  Pineda is a founding member of HTI and co-chaired that influential endeavor.   As a board member of Crispaz (Christians for Peace) of El Salvador, Pineda attended and participated in the November 30th Crispaz’ Peace Award event honoring Father Thomas Smolich, S.J. at Santa Clara University.  Finally, Pineda along with students from her TESP 109 class participated in the 20th anniversary of the celebration of the re-enactment of Our Lady of Guadalupe event held in the Mission Church on Sunday, December 4th.  This anniversary marks two decades of collaboration between Sacred Heart Parish’s Teatro Corazón and Santa Clara University—an event in which Pineda has served as one of its founding members along with Dr. María Castañeda-Liles from the Religious Studies Department.
