Teresia Hinga Facilitates Tree Planting Event in Honor of the Season of Creation

To celebrate the Season of Creation (September 1st - October 6th) and The Feast of St Francis in 2017, in collaboration with local communities including the Eritrean Community, Kenyan Community and Pacifica Institute, we facilitated a tree planting ceremony at the Forge Community garden. We planted a coffee tree, reminiscent of Ethiopia and native to East Africa, and moringa, a medicinal tree. Students from TESP 131 and RSOC 170 participated

The film Taking Roots: The Vision of Wangari Maathai reminded us of the Global imperative to plant trees. The communities in attendance were ones Prof. Hinga had been working with through the Center for The Humanities project this last year. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing with the soil and with the Chicken!
