Marriage Preparation Training for Ecclesial Ministry (PR-2700), 1.5 Units

Course Description:
The course is designed to train lay and ordained ecclesial ministers to prepare couples for marriage in the Catholic church and preside at or coordinate Catholic wedding liturgies. Students will gain a deeper understanding of contemporary Catholic theology of marriage and family and the wedding liturgy as well as practical skills for helping couples prepare for the liturgy and their marriage. Incorporating cultural elements into marriage and liturgy preparation and navigating inter-cultural contexts will be a central course theme.

Theological Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence, (HSST-3xxx), 1.5 Units

Course Description:
Even as the questions posed by emerging AI technologies take “ever new forms” (Magnifica Humanitas 78), they also reflect perennial theological questions. This ministerial skills course equips lay and ordained ministerial leaders with the historical, ethical, and theological resources to think critically and creatively about emerging AI technologies. This includes both the recent magisterial tradition of the Catholic Church and also a deep history of theological reflection on personhood, embodiment, agency, and technology. Students will integrate and apply their knowledge of Scripture and Tradition in order to constructively engage the manifold challenges and opportunities that AI technologies present. A central goal of the course is to cultivate robust shared theological reflection and integration in conversation with others. Student learning will be assessed on the basis of active participation and a collaborative final assignment.
