JST Scholarships

JST offers partial-tuition scholarships that range between 25%–75% of tuition. All admitted students that apply for a partial-tuition scholarship are guaranteed to receive an award. 

Award Criteria

Partial-tuition scholarships are awarded based on a combination of merit and financial need. The merit portion of the award will be determined using the contents of the candidate’s application for admission. The financial need portion of the award will be determined based on the following: 

• Candidates that are eligible to complete the FAFSA will be evaluated based on their Estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
• Candidates that are not eligible to complete the FAFSA will be evaluated based on a statement of financial need.

Application Process

• Complete the admission application.
• Complete the scholarship section in the admission application.
• FAFSA Eligible Applicants that wish to be considered for the need-based portion of the award are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provide SCU's institutional code 001326.
• Non-FAFSA Eligible applicants that wish to be considered for the need-based portion of the award are required to submit a statement describing their financial circumstances.

JST offers the following full-tuition scholarships:

Arrupe Scholarship - supports lay students accepted into the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program that have experience or interest in working in poverty settings and with persons from different cultures. 

Kalmanovitz Scholarship - supports lay students and women religious with strong academic credentials and significant documented financial needs with a strong record of theological ministerial service to schools and other Church-affiliated organizations.

Black-Catholic Ministry Scholarship - supports students who are currently serving or demonstrate a vocational calling to serve the Black-Catholic community.

Latinx-Catholic Ministry Scholarship: supports students who are currently serving or demonstrate a vocational calling to serve the Latinx-Catholic community.

Religious Women Scholarship: supports the outstanding works throughout the world of religious women whose congregations lack the necessary funding for theological education.

Award Criteria

All full-tuition scholarships are based on a combination of merit and successfully meeting the criteria outlined in each specific scholarship description above. The merit portion of the evaluation will be based on the contents of the candidate’s application for admission. The scholarship specific criteria portion of the evaluation will be based on a supplemental scholarship essay that candidates are required to submit. 

Application Process

• Complete the admission application before the priority deadline.
• Complete the scholarship section in the admission application.
• FAFSA Eligible Applicants that wish to be considered for the need-based portion of eligible awards are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provide SCU's institutional code 001326.
• Non-FAFSA Eligible applicants that wish to be considered for the need-based portion of the eligible awards are required to submit a statement describing their financial circumstances.
• Submit the Supplemental Scholarship Essay (prompts will be provided in they application)

Applicants that apply for, but are not awarded a full-tuition scholarship will automatically be considered for a partial-tuition scholarship.

Applicants applying to the Common M.A. program through the Graduate Theological Union, who affiliate with JST, are eligible for partial-tuition scholarships ranging between 25% - 65%. All admitted students that apply for a partial-tuition scholarship are guaranteed to receive an award.

Award Criteria

The merit portion of the award will be determined using the contents of the candidate’s application for admission. The financial need portion of the award will be determined based on the candidate’s GTU financial aid application. 

Application Process

• Complete the GTU admission application
• Complete the process outlined by the GTU financial aid office.
• Send an email to jstadmissions@scu.edu stating that you have completed the GTU admission and financial aid applications.
