2016 Honorees

Student Group Honoree - Xavier RLC Staff of Sanfilippo Hall

  • The Xavier staff is made up of a Resident Director, Assistant Resident Director, Faculty Director, Spirituality Facilitator, and 6 Community Facilitators. They are role models to their residents and provide programming around themes of faith, justics, and solidarity.
  • Staff includes: Maitreya Badami, Sylvia Rodriguez, Grace Lacayo, Jessica Carmona, Christopher Grove, Alexandra Hall Rocha, Roshan Rama, Kaylee Hansen, Miguel Chapa, and Laura Rosenberg.

Student Honoree - Chidozie Onuegbe

  • Chidozie is a biology major. He was nominated by his roommate for his love of learning, willingness to explore topics at length, and giving his peers a sense of confidence.
  • Chidozie chose A Light in August by William Faulkner as his selected read.

Faculty Honoree - Dr. Phyllis Brown

  • Dr. Brown is a professor in the English department and director of the Medieval/Renaissance Program. She was nominated for enriching the university community through her contributions.
  • Dr. Brown chose The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri as her selected read.

Staff Honoree - Patricia McBride

  • Patricia is a California-licensed and nationally certified Physician Assistant in the Cowell Center. She was nominated for her love of reading and her acts of kindness.
  • She has helped gather books to send to the incarcerated.
  • Patricia selected All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr as her selected read.

Alumni Honoree - Brent Izutsu '05

  • Brent works in the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning at Stanford University.
  • He serves as National President of the SCU Alumni Board of Directors, and has also served as an advisor for the Young Buddhist Association in Mountain View.
  • Brent selected Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse as his selected read.
