macOS Sonoma

Product Information

macOS Sonoma was released on September 26, 2023.  Academic Technology is supporting macOS Sonoma.

Recommendation

There is no urgency or current need for you to upgrade to the new macOS. You do NOT need to upgrade.

As with any major macOS upgrade, we recommend you back up your data prior to upgrading.

The macOS versions currently supported by Academic Technology / Technology Support Services are:

  • macOS Monterey (12.0)
  • macOS Ventura (13.0)
  • macOS Sonoma (14.0)

System Requirements

Apple has announced the following models will support macOS Sonoma:

  • MacBook Air (2018 and later)
  • MacBook Pro (2018 and later)
  • Mac mini (2018 and later)
  • iMac (2019 and later)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (2019 and later)
  • Mac Studio (2022 and later)

Software Compatibility

Note -  When waking from sleep or after locking a computer using the Apple menu -> Lock Screen, typing the password to log back in does not work. It acts like the password is typed incorrectly by shaking the password box.  We've found you can do one of the following to log back in:

  1. Hard reboot. This will bring up the username and password fields and allow the user to log back in.
  2. Setup fingerprint to use Touch ID.
