On-Campus Employment
- Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time and in valid F-1 status.
- Hours: Up to 20 hours per week while school is in session; full-time during official school breaks.
- Application Process:
- Most campus jobs are posted through Workday (SCU’s job portal).
- You’ll need to secure a job offer before applying for a Social Security Number (SSN).
- Check with Student Employment Services or the International Students Office for onboarding steps and documentation requirements.
Off-Campus Employment (With Authorization)
International students can explore off-campus work only with prior authorization through one of the following programs:
- Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
- Allows employment in jobs directly related to your field of study (e.g., internships, co-ops).
- Must be approved by your academic department and ISS office.
- Can be part-time (during the academic year) or full-time (during breaks or in special programs).
- Optional Practical Training (OPT)
- Typically used after graduation but can be done before (Pre-Completion OPT).
- Requires approval from USCIS (application process takes time—plan ahead!).
- 12 months of work authorization; STEM students may be eligible for a 24-month extension.
