Hussein El Hajj an Assistant Professor of operations management and business analytics in the Department of Information Systems & Analytics at the Leavey School of Business. He holds a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, an M.S. degree in Engineering Management, both from the American University of Beirut, and a Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from Virginia Tech.
Hussein’s research interests lie in the application of operations research and data analytics methodologies to solve problems related to healthcare management and analytics, public health policy, supply chain, and emergency management. His research has been published in leading academic peer-reviewed journals including Operations Research, Management Science, and Naval Research Logistics.
Hussein received the 2022 Pritsker Doctoral Dissertation Award. He is a finalist for the 2021 INFORMS Pierskalla Award, a finalist for the 2020 INFORMS Bonder Scholarship for Applied Operations Research in Health Services, and a runner-up for the 2019 INFORMS Health Applications Society Best Student Paper Competition. He also received the Outstanding Ph.D. Student Award and the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2021 and 2018, respectively.
