Andrew McBride is an Assistant Professor of Management at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte in Organizational Science and an M.A in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the same institution.
Andrew’s research broadly focuses on leadership and identity in organizational contexts. Some of the questions his research covers include: How does identifying as a leader impact a person? What kind of behaviors—good and bad—does that identification motivate? How do leaders influence others’ identities and when can that influence become harmful? He is also interested in field-level issues like academic authorship, replicability, and the meaning of rigor in social science. He was trained in quantitative and qualitative methods and uses both in his research. Some of his recent projects have been published in outlets like The Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Nature Human Behavior.
In classes, Andrew uses activities and discussions to foster engagement. He enjoys working with students to help them identify their interests and plan specific steps they can take to reach their goals.
