Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley : Keeping Faculty Current in Emerging Business Topics : Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business

Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley wrote an op-ed for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business addressing how to keep faculty current in emerging business topics.

Caryn Beck-Dudley, dean of the Leavey School of Business, wrote an op-ed for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). With Santa Clara University in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Dean Beck-Dudley discusses the importance of ensuring Santa Clara faculty remain on the cutting edge of business and innovation. By focusing on the disconnect between areas that are equipped with technical experts and those that lack these resources, she suggests several different approaches business schools can take to better educate and equip their faculty.

“What is needed is a more systematic method of assuring that the faculty have the resources and time to learn new subject matter, and they need to be encouraged to do it. The resources need to be built into the regular faculty worklife and workday. The learning needs to be encouraged and rewarded; it cannot be an added responsibility without recognition that another responsibility needs to be removed. Business schools can offer subject-matter workshops, short courses, and practicums for existing faculty.”
