Going Above and Beyond

Business School staff are recognized for their contributions to the Leavey School of Business.

Business School staff are recognized for their contributions to the Leavey School of Business.

Four Leavey School of Business (LSB) staff were honored at this year’s Staff Appreciation Luncheon held Friday, May 12, with annual awards recognizing the positive impact they’ve had on business school students, faculty, staff, and the organization as a whole. These awards celebrate staff contributions that best illustrate LSB’s highest ideals and aspirations, and reflect a shared commitment to the School and the University.

Mary Correia
Administrative Impact Award

The Administrative Impact Award is presented to the staff member who has demonstrated the most significant impact in support of the Leavey School of Business’ mission to educate the next generation of business leaders.

Mary is an outstanding resource to the Leavey School of Business. Her contribution to the Management Department, and the school as a whole, combines both administrative excellence and student service. She has a wealth of knowledge and a “get it done” attitude that produces great results. Mary is described in her nominations as going above and beyond, being helpful, sharp and patient.

Susan Gutierrez
Collaboration Award

The Collaboration Award is presented to the the staff member who exemplifies the spirit of working together in cooperative pursuit of the mission of the University and of the Leavey School of Business.

While Susan is fairly new to the LSB team, her contributions have had - and will have - a sizeable impact on the success of graduate programs University-wide. Susan is the Business School point person on the SLATE implementation team. Thanks to her hard work Leavey was the first group on campus to launch an online graduate application. The work she did will be used by other schools to make their transition to the online application seamless. Susan truly exemplifies how a collaborative spirit can drive progress.

Carol Goad
Student Experience Award

The Student Experience Award is presented to the person whose efforts have enhanced the learning experience for our students at any level, undergraduate, graduate, or executive.

Carol is devoted to the students at Santa Clara University, especially those who are involved in the Food and Agribusiness Institute. She provides assistance and guidance when requested, encourages students to pursue their interests, and supports their creative ideas. Carol seems able to strike just the right balance between providing students with supervision and support while giving them ownership of projects and enabling them to develop their skills. She is a model of professionalism, competence, collegiality and fun!

Toby McChesney
Dean’s Excellence Award

Not an annual award, the Dean’s Excellence Award is presented to a staff member that has gone above and beyond in all aspects of his or her work.

Toby, in just a few short months, led the Graduate Business team to meet almost impossible graduate enrollment goals. These achievements are critical to the business school and its ability to support the University. Toby’s ideas and work ethic have been instrumental in student recruiting. He interviewed each and every student for the Winter cohort and developed a highly successful alumni ambassador program to help recruit for Fall. Toby jumped right into his work with both feet while keeping a much needed positive attitude.

Congratulations to these exemplary staff members!
