Retail Management Institute Student Awarded $10,000

Marlowe Camblin ‘19 was recently awarded a National Retail Federation (NRF) 2018 Next Generation Scholarship to support her education at Santa Clara University.

Marketing major and RMI minor Marlowe Camblin '19 was recently awarded an NRF Next Generation Scholarship to support her education at SCU.

Through the NRF Student Association, Marlowe and fellow student Bella Giannini ‘18 applied and were accepted to attend this year’s NRF Foundation Gala in New York City. Both marketing majors and retail studies minors, Marlowe and Bella were two out of 100 applicants from across the country to apply.

Scholarship finalists were chosen based on their skills, insights and interest in the retail industry, as well as on their project completed during the application process. The top 5 scholarship finalists were asked to present at the gala, and Marlowe, the only junior in the top 5, was awarded $10,000 for her business plan proposal addressing subscription-based services. Bella, who made it through the first round of applicants, finished within the top 25.

“The Student Program and the Gala provided me with an invaluable wealth of knowledge that I will carry with me throughout my studies at Santa Clara and into the future,” said Marlowe. “I am so fortunate to be a part of the Retail Management Institute and to have attended some incredible, life-changing, career-influencing NRF events.”

“Marlowe made us extremely proud. [She was] poised, articulate and engaging in front of a very prestigious group,”said Cynthia Gamage, associate director of the Retail Management Institute.

NRF is the world's largest retail trade association. Their annual gala brings together industry executives from around the world who are committed to making a difference for the future of retail. The student program provides undergraduates with networking opportunities, career fairs, scholarships, and the chance to hear from leaders in the industry.
