SANTA CLARA, Calif. (November 9, 2020)

In an extraordinary debut, Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business has been named the No. 10 Best Online MBA Program of 2021 in the annual ranking from Poets&Quants. The remarkable jump to a top ten position comes just three years after the program’s launch and reflects high marks in all three equally-weighted categories: No. 3 in career outcomes, No. 8 in academic experience, and No. 29 in admission standards.

The Online MBA rounds out the graduate business school’s top-ranked MBA curriculum including the No. 11 Executive MBA (U.S. News) and the No. 25 Evening MBA (U.S. News).

To be ranked as a top ten program in our first year of eligibility is incredibly exciting and reflects our commitment to delivering a first-rate education that provides a strong return on investment for our students,” Senior Assistant Dean of Graduate Business Programs, Toby McChesney said. “This return on investment is evidenced by our No. 3 ranking in career outcomes, an engaged student body who regularly participates in our career fairs, and a community of happy alumni who can speak to the benefits of a Santa Clara MBA.

While admission data incorporates metrics such as test scores for enrolled students, undergraduate GPA, and work experience, the categories of academic experience and career outcomes are determined by an alumni survey of each school’s most recent graduating class. This survey gauges how likely alumni are to recommend the program to a colleague, friend, or family member, the quality of their professors and ability to make connections with them and other students, and how many students received a promotion or boost to their pay as a direct result of the program, among other questions.

“The Online MBA Career Management team at Santa Clara University was instrumental in helping me navigate my career trajectory by helping to identify my interests, putting me in contact with alumni and recruiters from the industry, and giving me a real-time view/analysis of what recruiters in the industry may be thinking,” Senior Pricing Analyst at VMWare, Alexander Titus, MBA '20 said. “The SCU online MBA experience made me a better manager, a better leader in my community, as well as a better father and husband in my home life with a wide range of subjects that made me more aware and attuned to the future.”

The Leavey School’s Online MBA program includes a signature Silicon Valley Professional Dashboard, through which students track, curate, and connect their coursework, co-curricular activities, and professional development. In addition, students have access to the vibrant Leavey School of Business community and strong alumni connections, career fairs and networking events, including study abroad courses in locations like Vietnam.

“Through our Online MBA program, we are able to provide an education that capitalizes on our premier location, deep faculty expertise and Silicon Valley based network of business executives and alumni, while leveraging technology to make a uniquely SCU education accessible for students across the nation,” Interim Dean, Naren Agrawal said. “I’m especially thankful for our faculty, Career Management team, and admissions staff who have worked tirelessly to provide an enriching online learning experience that continues to excel.”

“We are extremely proud of this top showing in this year’s rankings,” Faculty Director of MBA and Online Programs, Nydia MacGregor said. “Credit goes to our innovative faculty and their hard work in developing rigorous and relevant content presented in rich and engaging online experience. Just as importantly, faculty do more than teach—they form meaningful relationships with students, challenging them, and thereby preparing them to carve out a unique and fulfilling career path. It’s this holistic approach that enriches the total student experience.”
