Two Online MBA Students Named Amongst Best & Brightest in the Nation

SCU's Anthony Bonvino and Dominique Watt featured in the annual list of Best & Brightest Online MBA Students from Poets&Quants

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (July 18, 2022)

Two of the Leavey School of Business’ top MBA students have been selected as a part of the 2022 Best & Brightest Online MBA list from Poets&Quants. The annual list features students from the Top 25 Online MBA programs in the nation who embody the best in business education. To guide nominations, Poets&Quants posed the following question: “Which students were so fundamental that you can’t imagine the class without them?”

This year, Anthony Bonvino and Dominique Watt were chosen to represent Santa Clara University based on their “strong academic performance, critical and consistent contributions, striking personal narratives, and innate potential.”

Anthony Bonvino

Coming to SCU’s Online MBA program with a background in healthcare and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Anthony Bonvino currently works as a Business Development Associate within the Corporate Strategy Group at Penumbra Inc., a Global Healthcare Company. Prior to his time at Penumbra, Anthony played a pivotal role in designing pacemakers for Abbott.

When asked what achievement he was most proud of in his career, Anthony shared that it was “the tools, fixtures, and manufacturing processes for Abbott’s next-generation Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. The pacemakers were FDA approved in 2020 and those devices are improving the quality of life for tens of thousands of patients worldwide.”

Following this impactful success, Anthony found himself looking to make the transition from biomedical engineering to corporate strategy, and was drawn to Santa Clara University’s Online MBA program and deep-rooted connections in Silicon Valley.

“Pursuing my MBA accelerated my transition from ‘straight-line’ Biomedical Engineering into the Corporate Strategy Group, specifically my current position within Business Development,” Anthony said. “This new role is feeling like the proverbial ‘dream job’. I never knew it existed and feel most fulfilled when I apply the course concepts in my new role.”

Dominique Watt

Dominique Watt is the Administrative Director of Clinical Effectiveness, Education, and Inclusion Diversity Health Equity (IDHE) for Stanford Healthcare. Hailing from Queens, New York with a B.S. in Nursing, Dominique initially made the move to California as a travel nurse where she later received an M.S. in Nursing.

When reflecting on her professional career, it was this same move that Dominique is most proud of. “[The achievement I am most proud of] is moving across the country to California, on my own as a travel nurse, and joining the Stanford community as a permanent bedside nurse,” Dominique said. "It was the first step in my leadership journey. I have been here since 2010 and have grown in my career more than I could ever imagine.”

When deciding to pursue her second master’s degree - this time an MBA from Santa Clara University - Dominique knew she was looking for a program that provided the flexibility to complete courses on her own time while still providing an interactive and intimate course delivery.

“I valued being able to do my coursework from anywhere and anytime, when I was still at work or even out-of-town, making the program so much more manageable to match my lifestyle and other responsibilities,” Dominique said.
